- Subject: [NAFEX] Can't grow Hudson's Golden Gem

I grow apples on a fairly low spray schedule with only 2 insecticide applications (usually Imidan) at petal fall and about 2 weeks later with some myclubutanil and Captan often in the mix. Here in southeastern NY this generally works on the about 100 small orchards I manage for most apple varieties but not for Hudson's Golden Gem. It is an absolute sponge for coddling moth and stinkbugs here. There may be another unidentified issue or 2 as well. Golden Russet is almost as difficult.
Just thought I'd throw that out there as we're discussing apples now because Hud. GJ is so often described as bug and disease resistant. I will probably give up on trying to grow it on my own property (very buggy site) even though I'm fond of the unique qualities of this apple. Oh well, at least it's not one of my top 10.
