Most people consider glyphosate (active ingredient in Roundup) to be
one of the 'least toxic' of herbicides. It's supposedly not very
persistent, and not very harmful to humans. In my work, I've used both
glyphosate and triclopyr for cut stump application on woody plants.
With glyphosate, paint or spray on the freshly cut stump a solution of
between 20 and 50 percent active ingredient. Fall and winter is best
time, as juices are flowing towards the roots at that time of year.
When sap is rising, won't work at all.
