Murph, I'm just a rookie at this, but tried chip-bud grafting apples for the first time 3 1/2 weeks ago. Four out of six buds are fat and happy and I hope to replant two of them in my yard in another year. You might have better results for Wolf River that way. Rootstock is cheap. Haven't heard of anyone air-layering apples. Quite a number of tree species will root if you score a branch and lay a rock on it - provided you have a branch that can reach the ground, which is not likely the way most folks (including me) tend apples. I tried Air Layering on Wolf River apple and Smoky Saskatoon. Both failed miserably. 2 branches each. Is there a list of plants that respond well to Air Layering? Murph PS Making new plants of Saskatoons from root cuttings is a piece of cake! Saskatoons from seed are easy, too. _______________________________________________ nafex mailing list nafex@lists.ibiblio.org Reproduction of list messages or archives is not allowed.
