Hi,
I have done exactly what you suggested plus I also cracked a few to just stratify that actual seed, like I have done with peach seeds with excellent success.  I don't think there was wevils as the extracted seeds did look quiet good.  Maybe I just have to wait longer?  Thanks for your help though.

I've germinated them the few times that I was able to beat the squirrels to them.  Didn't write down what I did, but I suspect that I put them straight into damp stratification in the fridge as soon as I collected them, brought them out in the spring and most sprouted.  Is it possible that weevils got to the nuts and they weren't viable when you put them in?

Does anybody have any experience germinating wild hazelnuts.  I was able to germinate hybrid nuts last year but have had no luck with the wild ones.Have had them stratifing in the fridge for 3-4 months, any suggestions.  Going to try a few with the Hot water treatment in the red folgers coffee can.
