- Subject: [NAFEX] treated and untreated wood

I have no issue with treated wood, even the old formula. Seems like a saw an experiment where even raised bed vegetable gardens didn't draw up significant poison pt wood was used for the beds. A single post to support a fruit tree, especially if it's temporary, shouldn't be a problem.
But I do much prefer the look of red cedar and locust for fence posts. The trick to getting the best post wood around here is to harvest the cedar that started as pioneers in a cleared area and then were overwhelmed by more vigorous hardwoods so they grew very slowly- nothing but hearwood. I harvested some that were laying for years on the moist floor of the woods near me and after another 18 years they're still going strong. If you buy cedar posts look for lots of dark red heartwood.
