Thanks, John. Another reason I suspected a spray was that some of the fields had white trees while other fields had white bushes, which were probably some kind of berries.

A product called "Surround" can leave trees looking white although I think it might be a little early for that. My understanding (I do not use it myself) is that it is used to protect fruit from insect damage organically.

- To the list,
- While driving on the highway near Wenatchee, Washington (a great
- fruit-growing area) this weekend we noticed field after field of pure
- white fruit trees, in addition to an occasional field of the usual
- grayish-brown trees.
- I thought it might be some sort of early spring spray, but others
- suggested it might be a variety or varieties with white bark. Every
- bit of the tree was white - trunk and all of the branches, giving the
- fields a rather ghostly appearance.
- Any idea what this might be? By the way, it was a beautiful sunny
- day, with no rain to wash off anything that might have been sprayed.
