Aromatnaya is a variety of the fruiting quince, Cydonia oblonga. The quinces
I'm interested in are in the genus Chaenomeles, which includes flowering
quince. I've noticed that deer leave flowering quinces alone around here,
maybe because of the thorns. I haven't seen any Cydonia oblonga around here,
which makes me wonder if there's a reason for that.

Nafex has a concise summary of the various quinces:

On an unrelated topic, I just went grocery shopping and bought a bag of dried
Chinese haws. The checkout lady said to make tea out of them.
