This may be true, but I hope it doesn't discourage us amateurs from trying
anyway. Even if we each have only a one in a million chance, if there are a
million of us trying, one of us is probably going to find something good.
If the odds discourage us, then we leave plant breeding in a few, centralized
hands, that are not necessarily selecting for traits we care about.
