Vernon:  Pawpaws spread by runners to form colonies.  I can't wait for my (non-grafted) pawpaws to produce volunteers.  Perhaps a good strategy would be to allow the rootstock to spread to an area where it could be allowed to grow.   As I understand it, there are very few strains that produce bad fruit.

Vernon,

I have not used a root sprout to pollinate a grafted tree - should work - I have never seen root sprouts out-compete a grafted pawpaw.

I usually dig all my root sprouts each Winter and use them for grafting each Spring, in spite of some references that advise against it I have been doing it for 10 years.

One of my grafted pawpaws is sprouting from its roots. Should I nurture the sprout so it can cross pollinate the tree or cut it off. Also, I have a wild plum thicket and I was wondering if I can use some of the seedlings to try my luck at grafting.
