FWIW, when kernels of super sweet corn get damaged or bumped in handling, the sugars will often oxidize and discolor the kernel. Try hitting an ear, let it sit for an hour or more, then cook it. Odds are good the damage will show as a dark place. Older ordinary sweet corn doesn't show it as much because there is less sugar and it tends to convert to starch when kernels are injured.

Bill,
Could the dark material on the ears be corn smut? It is a fungus, I
believe. I remember finding it on the ears of corn occasionally when I was
growing up.
