Another nice thing about the runover
technique is that you can stick your finger in the runover goo and see if you
got the sweetening right without cutting into the pie before it is served. If
it is too twangy there is time to locate some ice cream to go with it. This time it seems to have come out
quite nicely. Sweet enough to be good.. twangy enough to be interesting. Naomi "Few people are capable of

they are done, too. Ginda On Jun 21, 2009, at 12:23 PM, Naomi Counides wrote:
Well that got me going. I just
rooted around in the freezer and found a quart bag of black currants. It
did not look enough for a pie. I like fruit in my fruit pies. But I also
found a quart bag of gooseberries. So a quart of black currants, a pint
of gooseberries, some sugar, pinch of salt, maybe a teaspoon of cinnamon
and some flour, pilled real high (got scary near the end) into a pretty
good sized pie plate, double crust so it will cook through. (The berries
are still frozen) A tray underneath it in the oven. It will definitely
run over, that is how I tell that it is cooked, by the runover… I
thought about using some orange or lemon rind in it but decided against that
this time. 350 for an hour or so.. till done. Naomi "Few people are capable of

Counides Black currant pancakes and
muffins. I just dump a bunch in instead of blueberries which do not grow
well here. Black currant pie sounds like a good idea also. Sorry.. I do
not recipe cook mostly. Upside down cake with gooseberries and
some currants for color? Naomi "Few people are capable of

Behalf Of Deb S The crop is coming in and I'm looking for
excellent recipes for using black currant and gooseberries. Jellies, jams,
or just about anything! Thanks.
