Questions about your statement:

I cut down the one that looked like
that last year.

When did you cut it down ? This year (2009)? Did you cut it down because it
was completely dead?
Are the two trees the same variety (Reliance ?)

This was a pear question but I wonder if that's what happened to my
peach tree.........Last year lots of peaches. This year I think it
will die. Very few small leaves. I cut down the one that looked like
that last year. Yesterday I pruned everything off this one that didn't
have something green on it.
