Maybe there are places that are too alkaline to grow blueberries, but I wouldn't give up without trying mixing my soil with peat moss 1 to 1 and adding peletized sulfur.  If plants still looked chlorotic I'd spray with a foliar iron amendment.  If that didn't work I'd just plant them in straight bails of peat as I've seen demonstrated on the net in Texas, I think it was.
 
As I've stated on this site before, I have seen very healthy and productive blueberries growing in soils with a pH in the mid 6's and others corroborated this observation.  True gardeners never give up.
