Up here in Quebec I have loads of wild raspberries in my garden (small but reasonable taste and very prolific), and over the past couple of years I have what appear to be wild blackberry canes. They are thicker and darker than the rapberry canes with viscious spines. I have yet to see if they will fruit, mainly because they are everywhere in my woodland and will draw blood if you get anywhere near them (I have young exploring kids). So basically I'm at war with them. I'd rather have the room for the wild raspberries but they seem to shut them out after a while.

If anyone is masochistic enough to want to see if they might produce anything they are welcome to some of my rejects!

Never saw a wild blackberry grow near here. Furthest north I found
wild blackberries growing was near Brainerd and the fruit quality was
bad on scrawny canes.

Ernest Plutko lamented, "Ah the difficulties of buying fruit plants."

Ernest, may I suggest you start exploring varieties of wild
blackberry
plants that grow in your area. Over the years, every time I
discovered a
new variety, I dug it up and brought it home to learn how it grows in
a
domestic setting. I think I've finally found one that might be worth

growing. If it continues to show promise, I may grub out all the
Fort Kent
Kings and plant the wild type instead.
