We started out with subsoil, but I wonder now if we
had added boron 'way back 14 years ago if our garden would have improved so much
that I would have skipped buying the fungi. Apparently boron deficiency
inhibits the activity of symbiotic nitrogen fixing bacteria. Who knows
what else it might inhibit. This year, after 3 winters of adding boron,
most of my apple trees have suddenly decided to bloom. On micromalus
stock, they are still quite small, but some have been hanging around for 7-8
