You can get apple seeds to germinate by stratifying them for 60 days.  Place them in some peat moss or some other medium that will keep them moist and put them in the refrigerator at about 35 degrees.  After 60 days nearly all will germinate.  Some will germinate in a shorter time but if you leave them the 60 days you will get better results.  This simulates the seeds wintering outside before they will start to grow.

How do you raise apples from seed?  I have tried it and can not seem to get the seeds to grow.

Rootstock question: I have close to 100 one-year old apple seedlings
grown from seed; the seed is from golden delicious and red delicious
apples. Is this worthwhile rootstock for budding or grafting? Will the
rootstock contain the same scab resistance of the delicious varieties?
The parent delicious trees are standard size, about 50 years old, and
unsprayed as of the last 5-10 years.

Thanks,

Jon
