Melissa Kacalanos asked, "Are these the raspberries being discussed, at the bottom of this page?
http://www.sln.potsdam.ny.us/raspberries.html"
Yes, that is the raspberry that I developed. They are buying tissue cultured plants from the Tissue Culturing company I have a security agreement with but I don't expect to ever see a dime of royalties. I'd have to sue to get anything and the small number of plants being sold wouldn't pay for a lawsuit at 15 cents per plant.
If you live in a growing zone where you can successfully grow catalog variety of black raspberry, you may not want to buy the Pequot Black Raspberry. It won't give you huge berries. I'm told that The Pequot has exceedingly more flavor than the others and some say it bears more berries. I don't know because I can't grow the catalog varieties (they don't ripen here is zone 3); this is why I developed the Pequot. The Pequot Black Raspberry is intended for those Northern growers who are unable to grow the catalog varieties.
The other fact to consider is St. Lawrence Nursery is selling for over double what I sell them for.................when I have any to sell. Last year's drought did in my new plants while I concentrated on efforts to keep the parent plants watered. In a normal year I sell about a thousand plants. This year I'll have about one hundred and most of those were sold last Fall.
