"The archives" have come up in several recent threads, with
suggestions variously about going there (archives) to read previous
posts or even, "search" the archives (presumably the "Nafex ibiblio"
archives, and not at all about the previous--or "former"--nafex Yahoo
ones. since the previous ones that were on Yahoo I guess are "long
gone"(are they not?)

Mainly, I have, for now at least, a simple question: Would I be
remembering "right", or "wrong"--or be experiencing oddball PC or
Internet Service Provider or related, myself-only problems-- if I
"no longer" can find a Search option on/in the (Ibiblio) archives?

...sort of seems generalizable as somewhat of a loss and step in the
wrong direction, would it not, if such an option "was there" but has
somehow disappeared or been deleted...
.(..again on the basis of a generalized result for most or all rather
than just somehow "with me")

A generic way to search a site is this format ( for instance in Google),
notice that the first word is the search word, then [site:] comes adjacent
to the appropriate url

apples site:www.ibiblio.org/ecolandtech/NAFEX/message-archives

(If you copy / paste the entire previous line in a browser you should see
about 1200 entries)

Another way to do this easily - go to Google search, click advanced, enter
your particular search word, then paste in the following url where it says
'search within a site'
www.ibiblio.org/ecolandtech/NAFEX/message-archives

Somewhere I believe I have a text version of the previous list emails - which
may or may not still be downloadable somewhere. And, since I like my own
indexing system, I have nearly all of the messages posted to the Ibiblio list
archived in my mail client. This allows me to search in a number of ways that
listservs often do not support. The long and short is that it has been years
since i tried to search the archives, but I have the messages.

Flax,

The Yahoo archives are not quite gone, but they are not accessible from
ibiblio in the traditional way. You can get back to April of 2000 if you go
through Google, whereas if you look at the ibiblio archives page, it starts
at April 2002. The following link is the first message, April 2000:

http://www.ibiblio.org/ecolandtech/NAFEX/message-archives/old/msg05907.html

Anyone interested in reading the archives can start at the above message and
click "date next" to read the messages sequentially. I believe it was
Ginda, who saved the yahoo messages on her computer which allowed them to be
imported to ibiblio. Thanks Ginda, through the years, I've read them like a
book.

Yup, that was me.

Please ignore my personal correspondence mixed in there. I'd saved all my
'fruit' e-mail in one folder, and in retrospect I wish I'd taken the time
to clean it out.
