- Subject: [NAFEX] Pears Compatible with Quince Rootstock
- Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2009 09:56:18 -0800
Does anyone have any idea where one could obtain the Swiss Bartlett or
another Bartlett strain that is compatible with quince? See the list from
OSU: http://www.ars-grin.gov/cor/catalogs/pyrcompatible.html for
other compatible pears. They list the Swiss Compatible and the French
Compatible Bartlett as being compatible with the quince rootstock. Has
anyone had any experience with these Bartlett strains or any other Bartlett
strains that are quince compatible? If so, what has been your
experience? Are they the same as any other Bartlett taste and other
characteristics for use?
One
other thing, there is a Beurre Dumont listed in compatible lists and a Dumont
listed in the incompatible lists. I have a Dumont that I have had for 20
years or so in nursery rows. I have it on quince rootstock too.
I don't know if I originally received it as Beurre Dumont or as plain
Dumont. Do you have any idea what is the difference between the two?
The Fruit, Berry, and Nut Inventory lists it as the same. I know
that when I refer to like Beurre d'Anjou I just call it Anjou without the
"Beurre" part.
Thanks,
Bob
