Dear Group,

In a recent Good Fruit Growers magazine grafter Ken Coates describes using the Adara plum as an interstem to convert plums to cherries.  He describes Adara as a variety of P. cerasifera which was developed in Spain, and indicates Adara has been used as a primary cherry rootstock in California.  As an interstem this would be similar to Zaiger’s Z stem on peach rootstock to grow cherries.  I called Mr. Coates to see where he obtained the Adara.  He indicated he had a private source from a neighbor but that he thought several nurseries in the Tulare County area sold it.  However, I have been unable to locate a source where I could purchase this plum.  Does anyone out there know of such a source?  We are trying to grow the newer low-chill cherries in the South, and this plant might be preferable to the classical cherry rootstocks.
