In Russia they are frequently used in wine. They have high sugar, intense color, and the astringency translates to lots of body in the wine. They are usually combined with apples for that.
Otherwise, they make very decent juice when cooked and diluted.

The Aronia I've eaten tasted like damp cardboard.  I do not understand their appeal.

Aronia isn't a fruit to eat fresh. Even though it can develop high
sugar (I've measured 23 Brix and more on ones I've tested) you can't
eat that many before the astringency makes your mouth feel dry. The
two main varieties are Nero and Viking. They top the list in
productivity. Hidden Springs Nursery has them.

Please send me the name of a nursery that sells Aronia melanocarpa

I had some but they got uprooted when they were in the way but I
forgot where I bought them.  So I got a new batch from a Conservation
tree place but the fruit has almost no flavor and leaves a bad after
taste.  I need good tasting plants.  Thanks.
