Hi Jerry--My Mom used to make applesauce and pies from a crabapple in
our yard. We also ate them from the tree--they were tart, but not
oppressively. Unfortunately, that house and tree are long gone, so I
don't know the variety, just that they are crabapples out there worth
the effort. Also, they are good pollinators. Barbara

I have heard that crab apples really add flavor to apple cider if used
in
small amounts. I'm thinking of planting a crab apple tree for that
reason.
Has anybody added crab apples to applesauce to add zest? Or anything
else like
pie? Jerry in southern Indiana
