Boy Jerry, don't get me started on Kansas
law. OK, one example.
We used to burn our tree trimmings. Allow me
to explain this process. The county we live in requires a burn permit,
even to light a camp fire. Not that you could actually light a camp fire,
because the burn permit forbids any fires after dusk, but I digress. You
have to go to the fire station to fill out a burn permit. The form clearly
states that you will not use any accelerant such as oil, gasoline, etc. even to
start the fire. They will allow you to use paper, if you have a spark
arrestor (whatever that is). I don't know how they expect you to start
fires, flint and steel? Anyway, I had to use denatured alcohol
(not on the forbidden list) at $10 per gallon to get the brush fires
going. Really efficient. Of course most people just ignore the law
and don't even get a burn permit. It's the law abiding that are
punished. I'm just waiting for them to outlaw compost piles, as being
unsightly. Then I'll have to start sending all the tree trimmings to the
dump. That will really help the environment.
One more example. Our county forbids any
fireworks on Independence day. I could understand maybe banning bottle
rockets, but no that's not strict enough. Not even crackers are
allowed. So how's it working? Our neighborhood sounds like a war
zone on the 4th. People just ignore the law. Some people start
lighting stuff a week before. Again it's the few people who observe
the law that lose privileges. Makes me think of the oxymoron, "Hi, I'm
from the government, and I'm here to help."

Mark, What is the logic behind that (stupid law)? Just don't tell the authorities. When the cattle walk down the slaughter house killing chute, that isn't trapped? The more I think about that.........It would be OK to eat road kill as they weren't trapped! So if someone asks about the squirrel you are eating, tell them it was road kill.
