Sudan grass is a sorghum that grows to 5 feet tall in 3 months.  It's also an annual.  It is utterly unsuitable for orchard planting.
 
Also, when it wilts (due to frost, or fire, or herbicide application) it produces prussic acid ( hydrogen cyanide), which is toxic to livestock.
 
Why on earth did you recommend Sudangrass?

There are special grasses that don't often need mowing- once or twice a year- Sudan grass?  I'm not sure but landscape designers would be aware of the species.
