Hi All,
Those of you with lots of J.Beetles: Did you have a rainy summer last year?
In Ohio, the growing degree days associated with adult Japanese beetle emergence are 970. We just passed 1100 but I haven't seen a one.
(I'm not complaining!) Last summer here we had a drought, and since Japanese beetle grubs usually need moist soil/roots for development during mid to late summer, I'm hoping that our populations will be low. A drought ought to have a positive side!
OSU/Oardc publishes a running GDD calculator on line. I'm guessing other states might have similar info available.
Michele in SW Ohio.
