Hi Bill,

They must have been thirsty.  I don't have much comment on the effect of Bt on bees.  Opinions differ.  However, Bt is generally considered more bee friendly compared to other insecticides.  I have heard of hive kills by applying Sevin dust to flowering crops.  The bees mistake it for pollen and take it back to the hive.

Speaking of peaches: I found my peach tree full of Gypsy moth larvae a couple of days ago. So I sprayed with BT. Then I was amazed to see clouds of bumblebees come to the leaves and lap up the spray droplets.

I hope they are not taking back the bacteria to their nests and killing the bumblebee larvae, since these bees seem to have been active pollinators for my fruit plantings. Are the larvae immune?

There are aerial BT sprayings of the mountains here to deal with the extensive Gypsy moth population. Could honey bee colony collapse relate these sprayings? I suppose the spray program diminishes the butterfly population.

Hi Toni,

Peaches hang on pretty well.  We've had tremendous wind (and some hail) here with very few peaches on the ground.  The biggest problem is it slams the peaches into branches and causes physical damage on some.

KS-received 6-7" of rain late last week.  Another 2-3" or more forecasted for tonight/tomorrow.  Trees drowning.

I have 23 baby peaches! And there's a tornado watch in effect AGAIN today. That last tornado just missed me and hit Parkersburg, IA. You many have seen it on the National News. I wonder if I will get one peach after the wind, rain, hot, cold that we are having so far this year. I suspect not. And to add insult to injury, there are no pears, no cherries, no apples and no plums. Not a one on any of my trees.
