- Subject: [NAFEX] Dwarfing the Ozark Premier
- Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2008 12:58:06 -0400
I only manage a single Ozark Premier but it is right next to a Shiro that grows like nuts. The O P has the most horizontal growth habit I've ever seen in a "Japanese" (OK hybrid) type plum. Can you be sure that the dwarfing is the result of inverse grafting?
By the way, this tree produces the largest plums I've ever seen anywhere and they're quite good- much better than Shiro in my opinion and about as good as the shyer bearing Santa Rosa which also grows at the same site along with Methely and Elephant Heart. All of these other varieties are much more vigorous and upright than O P even though Shi and Meth are nice spreading trees. I use spreaders on all of these except O P.
