Dear young fruit lover,

Citrus fruits are propagated by budding. The budded plants come into bearing much earlier than the seedlings. Then the budded plants are also less thorny and easier to handle.

In my opinion, you should let you seedling grow for one year and then take buds from it for budding it on rootstock that has been found good for your area. Get advice from some local expert.

Best of luck.

Subject: [NAFEX] How do I hasten results from cross pollination?

Hi to all,

I'd like to cross pollinate two varieties of citrus trees. Once these
trees bear fruit, I'll plant the seeds from this fruit in order to see
the results of the cross pollination, but is there any way to see
results faster than waiting many years to see fruit from the
seedlings? Could I graft a bud from the seedling onto mature rootstock
and get results faster?

In other words, is it the age of the scion or the rootstock that
determines when the tree will produce fruit?

THANK YOU!
