Magness is a pear that in the northeast is considered fireblight resistant. A lack of consistant productivity is its main drawback in my experience and may be part of what makes it so vigorous. I should look it up before saying it but isn't is also a triploid? I think that is why it produces no viable pollen. Apple triploids, at least the ones I grow, all have great vigor.
