After California banned the use of short hoes...............For those of you who are not familiar with the subject, the weeds in vegetable fields are often (usually?) removed by hand, with a hoe. When using a long hoe, it is easy to slip and cut off the vegetable plant along with the weed. So growers cut most of the handle off the hoes thereby forcing the person wielding the hoe to stoop down close to his work thereby cutting off fewer plants.
Anyway, after California banned the use of short hoes, I began to see berms along side of fields where I hadn't seen berms before. Curious, I climbed a few only to observe that the use of short hoes was still being practiced. Oh yes, and by the way, no toilets.
