If you want to grow great parsnips in heavy clay
soils, pound a sturdy metal rod about a foot deep into the soil. Then turn it in
a circle to make a funnel shaped hole. Pull out the rod, clean out the
loose clay, fill the hole with compost and plant your parsnip seed in the
top.
