There's a precedent for what you found, in any case. Worden is a seedling of Concord and it's one to two weeks earlier and about 10 degrees hardier.

Lon,
Yes, Wild grapes do grow here but the closest vine is several miles
away. My "Concord" has larger, juicier fruit than Valiant plus it ripens
weeks later than Valiant. Neighbors give us their Valiants a few weeks
before my "Concords" begin to ripen.
I believe I mentioned before that when I was a consultant to
Kimberly-Clark Corporation (the mfgrs of Kleenix), I discovered that, out of
1,000 seeds, at least one will produce a plant that will thrive in one USDA
zone colder and at least one out of 10,000 will thrive two zones colder.
No, my "Concord" is not a cross with Vitis riparia.

Do you have wild Vitis riparia in the area? The survivors might have
been the result of a chance cross between the Concord and a Vitis
riparia. The small cluster and berry size of riparia comes through
rather strongly, so the result could be something with a resemblance to
Valiant. I have several labrusca-riparia hybrids in my material and
there is a definite "family resemblance" if you aren't looking for the
differences. But the parentage of Valiant is well documented as
Fredonia x Vitis riparia.

Back in the days when I didn't know Valiant grapes existed, I
planted
Concord. I nursed my plants through a Winter so I could get seed,
which I

also
have Valiant too, I can't tell which is which; they are identical.
Could it
be that Valiant is really only hardy offspring of Concord?
