Could anyone tell me more about the timing of grafting bud shields onto apple trees in zone 8b? Is there a way to tell when "the bark slips" by looking at the tree/buds/leaves without cutting into it? Would the same apply for persimmon trees? Is parafilm enough to keep it from drying out after grafting or do you also need additional sealant or wax?
Thanks,
Annette
