How do you tell if they are jostaberries.?  I've got 4 or 5 plants that were labelled jostaberries but quite honestly they look identical to red currants.

Thanks, Donna, for your information on bilberries. The person who asked me is looking for a way to help his aunt with vision problems, and thus is trying to find a source of dried berries and/or leaves for tea, both of which are supposed to help. Does anyone know if jostaberries, of which I have an abundance, contain enough of or the right kinds of anthocyanins to help with eyesight or diabetes?

Speaking of jostaberries, I have grown them for about 8 years in zone 5 western PA, and they are trouble-free. Sometimes their vigor is almost too much, since they also reproduce fairly freely. Last year they produced nothing, and I decided to pull them out, but never got around to it. This year, they're producing freely, and are tastier than ever, so I guess they get to stay a while longer. And if they're useful to my friend's aunt, great!
