in regards to ripening on the tree -
if you like pears soft and buttery pick them mature, refrigerate until 2-4
days before you want to eat them, and allow them to ripen at room
temperature until they attain the desired quality - once 'ripe' they don't
keep - a cycle thru the refrigerator seems to 'condition' them so the fruit
ripens evenly -
on the tree, individual pears (generally) tend to ripen unevenly, often
deteriorating from the core out - you can have hard flesh under the skin and
brown watery area around the core - and did I mention ripe pears won't
keep? -
if you like them crunchy, that's fine with me - enjoy -
