Most Actinidia are difficult at best to root from
dormant cuttings. The success rate can vary a lot for different genotypes, but
in general it is poor. The trick is to use a strong rooting hormone and keep the
tops cool, while the bottoms are kept warm. It takes a long time
for roots to develop, so preventing bud break as long as possible is
very important.
I never bother trying to root them, as they are
very easy to graft. As long as you have any other Actinidia vine established,
you can graft dormant scions to the new green growth in mid to late spring, with
close to 100% success. You then just bend the new growth over and bury it or run
it into a container with soil, and it will root very quickly.
