Tanis,
It is possible that you had 'rat tail bloom'. This is a blooming after the usual period of bloom, sometimes just a few weeks after regular bloom and sometimes in the Fall.
You may not have noticed the blossoms in the Fall usually there are just one or two small clusters.
Some people think it is a result of 'unusual weather'.

I just found, on some apple trees I've been looking at all winter, some dead
dried
flowers which never fell off since spring. They look just like a blossom
after
petal-fall, but dry & brown.
