Something I didn't think of until now is, perhaps the reason why my compost doesn't stink is because 95% of what I put onto it goes on during Fall and Winter. It freezes solid. The bottom layers begin to heat after the pile thaws in the Spring and the top layers probably act as a cap to retain odors.
During the following Fall and Winter, I keep adding to that same pile. Ditto for the next Fall and Winter. Then, sometime during the following Summer, I remove the uncomposted top of the pile, moving it to where I'll start the next pile. Then I screen what will become potting soil and anything too big to fall through the screen goes atop the newly started pile.
As I said before, there is rarely more than a faint odor ever coming from my compost pile.
