Hallo Jim,
it's a pleasure to read your really very relaxed, creative and clever two methods - at Old Europe!
At Germany even hunters are not allowed to shoot our - different - squirrels at all.
And we have also many professional Hazel-and Walnut-plantations in Germany.
Some people make - if really necessary - the poles squirrel-proof and sometimes hazels are
grafted for this reason on C. colurna the Turkish tree hazel (e.g. at England).
May your cat become/remain a strong and big watch-dog-cat!

ciao
Hans

I keep hearing about people with squirrel problems and wonder why they put up with the dastardly critters. I used to tickle their behinds with my B-B gun and that worked really good. I never killed any but they sure took the hint.
I have now retired my B-B gun because I got a 'junkyard' cat who loves squirrel over his dry cat food.
