Title: University of California Pierce's Disease Grants Program Now Accepting Research Proposals (Univ of Calif.)
It's interesting that California has Pierce's Disease. I was not aware of it having spread there either. Here in Texas there are varieties that are resistant to Pierce's Disease and some are good wine varieties such as Blanc Du Bois, Favorite and others. Then there is another group of varieties that have some resistance. I would think that California would want to consult Texas researchers as they have been dealing with this disease for years.

University of California Pierce's Disease Grants Program Now Accepting Research Proposals               UC Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program The University of California Pierce's Disease Grants Program and the California Department of Food and Agriculture Pierce's Disease/Glassy Winged Sharpshooter Board are accepting proposals for research projects aimed at seeking solutions to the problem of Pierce's disease, a devastating disease that threatens California's grape industry.     I must not be monitoring emerging disease issues closely enough; I still thought that Pierce's Disease was only a problem in grapes in Texas and surrounding areas. -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, Minn.
