I'll add that if you have access to a greenhouse or cold frame, HEAT
makes them germinate much quicker. When I did them in outside michigan
weather, they took a few months to germinate, until the hot july
weather, and in a heated greenhouse they germinated in about 2 weeks.
If you are concerned about speed. ;) The greenhouse ones did get much
larger before fall hit.

Cold, moist stratification - I just put 'em in a ziploc bag with some
moist peat or newsprint - anything to keep them from drying out,
without promoting fungal growth.
No scarification needed, only stratification.
Plant in spring, once the ground thaws and freezing weather is past.
