Jim - They are a blackberry X raspberry cross from Scotland. They are hadry to zone 4 but they will survive zone 3 if you give them winter protection.
They are thorny, but the flavor on them is great. If you every had a peach/tayberry pie you would like them. They also make an incredible jam.
They might work in your area with a little winter protection.
