To answer your 3rd question only.
E.S. used many hybrids, especially in earlier crosses. In turn these
'crossed' varieties were often back crossed, etc.
Some used were Seyval, Baco Noir, Villard Blanc, SV 18-283, Landot 4511,
Siebel 11701 and I'm sure quite a few others. Cheers
