Colloquium: Plant intellectual property and innovation

Friday, Oct. 27, 4-6 p.m., Chevron Auditorium, International House

The Science, Technology and Law Working Group (STELA) presents a colloquium
that will examine the implications of the new plant development and
agricultural biotechnology regimes for global justice, the production of food
and drugs, and environmental sustainability. Themes will likely include
public vs. private domains, the creation of seed/germplasm banks for
agricultural crops and bioprospecting, biotechnology-innovation-local
knowledge tensions, agricultural biotechnology and justice."

The keynote speakers are Jack Kloppenburg, professor of rural sociology at
the University of Wisconasin-Madison and author of "First the Seed"; and
Madhavi Sunder, professor of law at UC Davis. David Winickoff, UC Berkeley
professor of environmental science, policy and management, will moderate.
