*"A few weeks ago, I made several whip and tongue grafts of various scions
(apple,
pear, peach, and plum) onto dwarfing rootstocks. So far, only one graft has
taken, a
NY 1502 plum on Krymsk rootstock. These trees are under a canopy on the south
side of my home. Question is would I help the grafting process by moving
these
plants indoors, considering the outside temperatures here in zone 5 have been
hovering around the low 40's for the past few days? I hesitate to move these
pots
because they are heavy and I haven't much room indoors."*
I grafted apple scions onto Bud9 rootstock (north central Nebraska) growing
outdoors on April 13 (modified chip budding). I unwrapped them on May 1. So far 2
have shown signs of life with the bud starting to grow. I cut off the Bud9 stems
about 3" above the graft on these 2 hoping to stimulate the buds. Had some
pretty cool nights when they were wrapped up. Had them protected with sawdust
around graft and inside a plastic pipe.
