The only one I have experiance with is the Chef which has survived in central Illinois for four years. The are easily grafted on osage orange which at one time was used as a hedge to separate farm fields but now occurs mainly as a weed in pastures and fence rows. The blooms kind of resemble a fuzzy balll. My oldest is in a valley and I think would have fruited except for a late frost.I received the scions from Wes Rice who described the fruit as quarter size, distinctive sweet flavor and attractive to birds.

Is anyone in the middle latitudes of the Midwest growing Shipova, medlars, jujubes, Che (cudrania tricuspidata), or Hovenia dulcis?

I’d like to hear your thoughts on what worked or didn’t work, cultivars, diseases, etc.

Many thanks

Michele Stanton,
