Yes, it seems to be a kind of wax that's on the
berries but it is removable with a good brush and some patience.

I have never made elderberry wine, but when I used to participate in
a winemaking club, I was told that Elderberries, unless very
carefully handled
made a green froth that stuck to the sides of the fermentation containers
and
was almost impossible to remove.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
