Ziziphus Jujuba (jujube ) the most popular species of ziziphus family.

Z. mauritiana (aka indian jujube) will grow in tropical regions.. possibly zone 10 and higher... recovers from injury of any kind, including fire, but ofcourse not in cold regions.

Z. spina-christi (Aka crown of thorns) wild species native tomediterranean region and middle east and believed that the crown of thorns was woven. (one source shows tree hardy to zone 6 ) producing sweet shiny black fruits. Not usually cultivated due to its thorny habit.

Z. Lotus (aka Lotus fruit ) native to northern africa. It has thorny branches, growing up to 7 ft (2 meters) high. zone 10 and higher.

There are many others as well...

Not much been done in hybirdizing species... at least didn't read about it anywhere.

Bass Samaan

Zone 6, Eastern PA
