Jim,

We set the hieght of the blade to 6" which leaves a minimum of 6 inches of the new cane. We have practiced this for about 7 years now and works fine for us.

To Dennis Norton,
You said: "Our pruning on summer berries begins soon after harvest is
complete by removing all the canes that fruited. We simply mow them down
with a bush hog."

My question is, "How can you use a bush hog to remove spent canes
without eradicating the new canes?"
