I agree, no fertilizer in the planting hole. Instead of cottonseed meal, I suggest soybean meal; essentially the same effect except much cheaper because sold as an animal feed. Use 1 to 2 pounds per hundred square feet. To adjust the pH, I use pelletized sulfur; the amount you need depends on, besides your initial pH, your soil texture. More is needed in heavier soils. After planting, mulch 2-4" with wood shavings, coarse sawdust, or shredded leaves.
